The caricature of Prophet, in a Danish newspaper has brewed considerable amount of controversy around itself. Muslim community is hopping mad as they think such wrong depiction of a prophet is a punishable offense. The extent of fury can be judged by the announcement made by UP Minister Muhammad Yaqoob Qureshi, which says that, a cash prize of Rs 51 crore will be given to the person who beheads the Danish cartoonist.
With due respect for Muslim sentiments Vijay Raghavan has questioned as to why Hindus don’t get involved in such protests?
He has highlighted M.F.Hussain’s portrayal of naked Saraswati-the Indian Goddess, plus the fact that Indian Gods are being openly featured at places where they ought not to belike the slippers, tissues, bathrooms and shoes.
Vijay has called for an awakening among Hindus...awakening that does not involve killing and slaughter but one that builds a constant pressure around the world that may sprout a kind of fear among any foreign element who tries to harm the sanctity of their religion.
In the same lines Zeeds thinks that there can be far better ways to spend that 51 crore, than just naming it satiating ones political urges in the name of ‘love for religion’.
Hail India and its leaders .. Whats the secular congress doing ?
If he could spend those 51 crores on welfare .. tch tch tch ..
Primary Lines has laid the fact that Freedom of expression seems appropriate only if it is supported with a feeing of responsibility other wise it’s just nothing more than a callous abdication and Danish Cartoonist’s attempt was one of these abdications.
Along with this he has also tried to place India on a different platform saying that we are not like the westerns who have an old tendency to ridicule and scoff at the non-westerns.
We are neither Muslim nor have sympathy for jihadists, Islamists, and even the so-called “moderate Muslims” who are too scared to practice their moderation. But, equally, we Indians are not of the West and do not subscribe to the latter’s constant tendency to diminish and ridicule non-Western cultures — Indians know this Western trait well from our history.
Nizhal Yoddha has a different story to tell on the very cartoon controversy. The protest that is at its peak among the Muslim community is nothing more than just a reason available to Jihadis to rage a war against the non-believers, he says.
He says cartoon or no cartoon, a crises was bound to be there as it is the ambition of the Muslim fanatics snatch away the freedom of speech from the non-believers...and for this very aim they got a means in shape of the cartoon.
The cartoon controversy is much more than freedom of speech. The violence perpetuated by radical Muslims is not for freedom of expression, democracy, religious rights or pluralism. Islam does not believe in freedom of expression or religious tolerance. The existence of Kaafirs (infidels) is enough cause for making Jihad war in Islamic countries. Muslim fanatics never wait for any cause. Any triumphed up cause is good enough to start a war against
non-believers.
Vivek Kondur’s thought match with that of Primary lines. Vivek emphasized the fact that freedom of speech that is natural, spontaneous free from all kinds of control is something that is desirable...but something that’s actually required in order to maintain peace and integrity is a freedom of exression in which sense of responsibility is also an important ingredient.
I feel artists have lot many subjects to choose from where they could use their creative juices than just linger on one subject *Religion*. Freedom-of-speech is very much enjoyed when it is natural & free flowing without any form of control. So always enjoy & express your freedom with some responsibility.
He believes that Hindus are far more tolerant than there other counterparts...as they have taken so many insults (read M.F.Hussain’s paintings) for their religion, without much agitation.
Here I think I must remind Vivek about the Godhara Kand and the Babri Masjid incident and not to forget the Ayodhya and Ram Mandir stuff...I don’t think what happened during all this is something that we call tolerance.
