Why did conservatives ban facebook in Iran?

For Iranians there is nothing unusual in banning Facebook except for sensitive timing. Muzzle the opposition and obstruct the mobilization of Iranian youth through Facebook. The reformist Presidential candidates are using new media technology to reach out to their young voters to unseat current conservative President. The development of new media technology and its is adoption by a large number of people 21m people out of a population of 70m have access to the internet has made blogs and web sites such as Facebook an important campaign tool for the reformist candidate hoping a swing in June 12 balloting. Mr Moussavis supporters have been using Facebook to encourage other Iranians to vote for him, and to unseat President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad. Besides facebook is the only independent source that both the Iranian youth and reformists can use to communicate with the state media tightly under the grip of ruling incumbent President Ahmedinejad.
