We all are quite ware that Nepal was unified in the second half of the 18th century but remorseful thing is that it had yet not yet been fully ‘integrated’ by the close of the twentieth. The reasons for this lack of integration are many, but the most important is the geographical terrain.
Nepal is a multi-lingual and multi-cultural country. Geographically, it is divided in to three major regions the Himalayas, the Mountains and the flat region called Terai. Terai is also called Madhesh. The state till yet has not realized that this region is also a part of Nepal. People at this region have been treated as second grade citizen and many are yet to get the citizenship and the interesting fact is that about four million people are stateless.
This long time conspiracy and discrimination against Madheshi is still going on and none of the Government has shown genuine interest in these issues rather they have tried to ignore it.
Paramendra Bhagat in his post ‘Madhesi Rights: Total Equality‘ has raised the same issue and has given all the convincing line of reasoning with perfect blend of sarcasm and facts
