Gone are the days when one would indulge in whining harangue over the decaying condition of Hindi heartlands’ body politic. UP’s thoroughly shameful and disgustingly offensive political episodes can silence even the loudmouthed commentators given to tale telling at the slightest hint. The silver jubilee celebrations of BSP at a whooping cost of 200crore to the exchequer proves that Behnji Kumari Mayawati is riding mighty high in the country’s most populous state, where she rode to power two and a half years ago.

5 lakh poor dalits were huddled from far and wide in the scorching heat to watch “Dalit Ki Beti” being garlanded by the party workers with a garland worth 5crore and lashing out at her political rivals for “playing gimmicks” to woo Dalit votes. She went on to add that “don’t vote for any party other than the BSP which is your true and committed well-wisher.” Does this point towards a sense of insecurity dawning upon the BSP supremo given the fact that Congress is trying to gain lost footing in the state once again under Rahul Gandhi, who forays into Dalit homes, sharing meals with them? How can she accuse others of being power grabbers when she herself leads an array of power hungry politicians eager to hold on to power by whatever means.

In fact very few since medieval times have tried to monumentalize themselves like Mayawati by carving marble statues worth billions pilfered from state exchequer in self glorification. It seems that Behnji’s political shrewdness and calculative moves are way too deep for the poverty stricken, weak and feeble minded Dalits to comprehend who voted her to power thinking of her as one of their own. Does Behnji Kumari Mayawati need any telling that it is against the law and public ethics to expend public money on such grand events aimed at enriching oneself when more than half the majority of her state’s population lives a wretched life amidst grinding poverty?

Mayawati has been very fortunate in getting all her political equations right within UP but she should make no mistake in understanding that electorate outside UP will never get blighted by her ranting of “Dalit Ki Beti” rising to power blah, blah, blah least of all abominable rallies. They are enlightened enough to identify self-gratiating politicians like Mayawati born with a bloodsucking parasitic instinct.
